If I had to recommend only one book to someone newly diagnosed with Asperger syndrome or autism, then it would be Tony Attwood's "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome". My biggest complaint with the book is that it does not include autism in the title. Much of the information is of value to any independent person with autism, and the Asperger-specific elements could be broadened to cover the spectrum.
