Jensen, Liz - "The Uninvited"
I really enjoyed this work of fantasy / science fiction and the description of the world in crisis that we inhabit - polluted, over-populated, under-resourced and unequal. Hesketh Lock is an anthropologist with Asperger syndrome, a supremely rational analyst in the supremely irrational mess that humans have made of our planet. Even he is taken by surprise by unusual and apparently supernatural events that cause mass hysteria. The plotting and suspense are superb and Hesketh's Asperger syndrome is not over-played. The book has some delightful touches in Hesketh's interactions with children, who (in contrast to the adults) unconditionally accept "the package that is Hesketh Lock".
